Today Sucks [Jun. 25th, 2009|03:53 pm]

Today Sucks

Michael Jackson was born in the same year as my dad. He had a tragic childhood, and never really grew up. He had so many battles in his life. I'm sad that he had to leave before his final shows. RIP.

The only other celebrity's death I cried for was Mr. Rogers, and at least he was old. This is just fucking with me. :(

Poor MJ.

I love this!

Today it's been six months since John and I had our first date, which was almost thwarted by snow entrapping my car, and not a cab to be found. I walked for 45 minutes in the snow to get to his house, where I now live, and where we spent pretty much my entire Winter Break together. We've been practically inseparable since.

This one is different.

I'm really lucky!

In case you didn't know, I am southern. [Jun. 10th, 2009|04:15 pm]

I made hushpuppies for the first time at Sean's Crawfish boil a couple of weekends ago, and they turned out marvelously! At his advice, though, next time I will use coarser meal and add corn and green onions to the mix, as well as more cajun spices than I used this time. (Not pictured: grandma-style southern bananer puddins I brought that disappeared in like 3 minutes.)

I never have mustered up the courage to suck a Crawfish's brains out, though, throwing into question this post's title. This could be one of the many reasons my grandpa decided I didn't fit in in the south.

Thanks to my grandparents Sidney and Clara for my Mississippi bloods. And thanks to baby Jesus that I can still enjoy these treats far, far away from there.

It's sunny and summery, and I'm glad the past two quarters are over, because I'm ready for something new and shiny.

Also, did you know my boyfriend is a Famous Person?

I had a great time today at school seeing everyone's presentation, and I showed my karaoke project as well. School's finally over in 2 days, and I'm really close to being done. I'll miss my classmates!

Play Day at Evergreen [May. 28th, 2009|05:34 pm]

Play Day at Evergreen
Originally uploaded by SherahSmith
Today was Play Day on campus, which meant that there were several JUMPING CASTLES in red square. It was sunny and beautiful outside, and I was happy.

I had a meeting with a professor who is sponsoring my contract next quarter ("Developing for the Web and iPhone"), and she was pleased with my proposal and signed it. She is cute and nice, and will be great to work with here in my final quarters at school.

I also had an awkward seminar today about sex offenders, which was not good timing, as just days ago I found out that last week a professor of mine was arrested for jacking off while watching guys shower in my student rec center. Somehow this has really affected me; I can't picture him even being dumb enough to do this. But you never know. Stupid article/hot picture of him here.

To make matters worse, my shitty hour-long commute today sucked more balls than normal. I expect traffic jams later in the day, but instead, today I got a 4-car accident that occurred right before I got there. There were no cops or ambulances there yet, and I had to drive over pieces of a car that was smashed so badly there's no way the person lived. As I got around the scene (people were there trying to help/make calls), I saw that the other side of the freeway was jammed as emergency vehicles made their way through. It freaked me out hardcore and made me cry because I am a pussy.

Oh well, I have my last kickball game tonight, and I hope we finally win. I look forward to the celebratory beer, and now I must go play the drums a bit to relieve the demons.

Heather, Michael, Isaac, Kim, John, and Me! [May. 27th, 2009|05:54 pm]
While we were at Sasquatch, we stayed in a hotel in nearby Quincy, WA, which is way better than camping at the campground. We got to know Kim and Isaac a little, got to see the Trumans again (we shared a room), and we had some amazing breakfast adventures. Sunday morning, we were unsuccessful in locating a local diner-style breakfast joint, but we found an authentic Mexican place instead. Monday, we went to the winery next door to the Gorge, and as you can see here, it was beautiful. I'm not doing the breakfast adventures justice...but you know when you're with people you love, and you get lost and have things go awry, but it's ok because you're all just having a good time anyway? That was us. We all enjoyed eachothers' company and the sunshine immensely. Would definitely do again. Not pictured: Russell and Summer.

My birthday weekend was swell! It started off with a lovely dinner at Serafina on Wednesday, followed by a kickball game Thursday, then another dinner on Friday at the Dahlia Lounge, which I had been dying to try, and which was AMAZINGly good. My lovely John then gave me a beautifully wrapped gift, which was a tiny Cannon camera that takes beautiful photos, as you can see!
We ate leftover steak and crabcakes Saturday morning, with the rest of the expensive wine my mom bought at Serafina, and we joked about our lives being so awesome that we ate steak for breakfast. We packed the car and took off for the Gorge, where it was sunshine and smiles and music and friends for three full days. We were never stressed, never unhappy or anxious, we enjoyed ourselves, and it was the best birthday times ever!!

Yesterday, John and I gave Leroy a bath. He's kind of a spazzy guy, but he took the bath really calmly. I was impressed. He tried to get away a couple of times, but the bathtub is so deep that he wasn't successful, and I think he knew he didn't have a chance. It was the cutest bath I've ever given an animal. More photos on Flickr if you really really care.

So, I figured out (thanks to Asa, since I'm apparently too lazy to look these things up?) that a Flickr Pro account is like $25, so I got one, and now I can upload more videos! Yay.

Here I am in Paris last June, bitching about the ambulance strike that was going on at the time. It was really the only negative thing about Paris; they started their sirens at 8am every day during the week we were there, and our hotel room faced the square they're parked in. It was loud!

Parisians are pretty passionate, I guess. We were also stuck in a lawyer's protest of some kind at one point (my French wasn't good enough to understand what they were protesting, though).

I know it's sooo cliche, but I reeeeally loved Paris and want to spend more time there. Like, a lot more time.

My Wife Just Left Me For Potato Chips [Mar. 16th, 2009|09:32 am]
I recently purged all the videos from my flipcam, and found some pretty entertaining ones. This one is totally adorable footage of Andy and Ingo at a BBQ on Josh's roof last summer. I love Ingo's expression and the couple-love is evident. Aww.

I'm thinking about re-getting a Flickr Pro account so I can upload more than two videos per month, but right now I'm at my limit. More are on the way soon though.

Premonition by Dirk Staschke [Mar. 9th, 2009|08:43 pm]
This is an interesting sculpture I happened across on BoingBoing yesterday (via artdirk.com). I love it, but I can be pretty dense when it comes to art. I'm not shallow I don't think, I just haven't been really exposed to a lot of art critique so I can miss "obvious" symbols and allusions. I love to make up my own stories about pieces like this, yet they are pretty often way off what was intended. I think that can be fun. What do you think this piece means?

I like to think it's a badass little flesh-eating chickadee that's taking a break from finishing the majority of this person for dinner. I can relate to that.

But really, enlighten me. I'd love to hear your perspective.

I had fun at this show, and being around teenagers. I was sure not to pick any of them up though because I don't need any more statutory rape charges on my record.
